The 35475 ZIP code is a standard USPS delivery ZIP whose primary city name is Northport, Alabama. It is the largest of Northport’s three ZIP codes by a wide margin. It covers parts of the City of Northport plus a large stretch of unincorporated Tuscaloosa County north toward Lake Tuscaloosa. A “Northport, AL 35475” address can be inside Northport city limits or outside any city, and this guide explains how to tell which.

A ZIP Code Tabulation Area (ZCTA) is the Census Bureau’s statistical approximation of a ZIP code. It is built from census blocks and is not the official USPS delivery boundary, so the area and population figures describe an approximate footprint. Even so, the gap is clear. The 35475 ZCTA covers roughly 215 square miles. Northport’s other two ZCTAs cover about 25 (35473) and 5.5 (35476).
Where 35475 sits on the map
On the Census ZCTA map, 35475 forms a broad band across the north of the Tuscaloosa–Northport area. It begins above Northport’s 35473 area and reaches far north and east into rural Tuscaloosa County. Along its eastern side it meets Tuscaloosa’s 35406, which covers the north-bank Tuscaloosa areas around the lower end of Lake Tuscaloosa. To the southwest it meets Coker’s 35452. It does not reach the Black Warrior River near downtown Northport. That riverfront core belongs to 35476.
The guide to reading the Tuscaloosa and Northport ZIP code map explains the map’s sources and limits. For a side-by-side look at all three Northport codes, see the Northport Alabama ZIP codes overview.
Northport city, unincorporated county, or both?
The 35475 ZIP code takes in both. The Tuscaloosa County unified 911 address points layer records the postal city, ZIP code and incorporated municipality for each address point. For 35475 addresses checked for this collection, it shows a split:
- Inside Northport city limits (county 911 data): Northside High School (19230 Northside Pkwy), Tuscaloosa County High School (12500 Wildcat Dr), Northport Elementary and Northport Intermediate (13695 and 13688 Frankie Thomas Trace), Huntington Place Elementary (11601 Huntington Pl), and the 16553 Binion Creek Heights point for Binion Creek Landing.
- Unincorporated Tuscaloosa County (county 911 data): Northside Middle School (19130 Northside Pkwy), Walker Elementary School (13051 Northside Rd) and PARA’s Montgomery Park (16780 Mormon Rd).
Northside Middle and Northside High have neighboring addresses on the same parkway, yet the county data places one outside the city and one inside. Mailing ZIPs, city limits and school zones are drawn by different agencies for different purposes. To check a specific property, use the Tuscaloosa County Public Works Planning and City Limits map. It is a general reference, not a survey, so confirm with the city or county. The explainer on mailing addresses versus city limits explains why these lines don’t match.
A Tuscaloosa city name on a 35475 address
Huntington Place Elementary’s own website footer reads “Tuscaloosa, Alabama 35475,” while the TCSS directory lists Northport, and county 911 data places the point inside Northport. ZIP directories list Northport as the primary city for 35475. If a form or delivery service rejects a 35475 address, check the city name the USPS ZIP Code Lookup returns for that street.
Main roads and orientation in 35475
The 35475 area has no single downtown, so roads are the most practical way to orient yourself:
- U.S. 43 north. From Northport, US 43 runs north into 35475 toward the Binion Creek arm of Lake Tuscaloosa. The National Register listing for historic Byler Road places it about 11 miles north of Northport, off US 43.
- AL-69 north. AL-69 also heads north out of the Northport area and crosses the North River arm of Lake Tuscaloosa.
- Northside Road and Northside Parkway. Walker Elementary, Northside Middle and Northside High have addresses here, in the northern part of the school cluster.
- Frankie Thomas Trace, Wildcat Drive and Huntington Place. Northport Elementary, Northport Intermediate, Tuscaloosa County High and Huntington Place Elementary use these streets, in the part of 35475 the county data places inside Northport.
- Mormon Road. PARA lists Montgomery Park at 16780 Mormon Rd.
No Tuscaloosa Transit Authority route currently serves Northport, so most trips in 35475 are by car. The Tuscaloosa and Northport commute guide covers the river bridges and main routes between the cities.
Schools in the 35475 ZIP code
Seven public schools have a 35475 street address, and all belong to the Tuscaloosa County School System (TCSS). That includes two high schools, Northside High and Tuscaloosa County High, plus Northside Middle, Northport Intermediate, and the Northport, Walker and Huntington Place elementary schools. No Tuscaloosa City Schools campus and no verified private K–12 school has a 35475 address.
The full table, with grade spans and official sites, is in the directory of schools located in 35475. Because this ZIP has two high schools, a 35475 address alone cannot show which school a student will attend. Use the TCSS Find My School Zone & Bus Route tool, because attendance zones are drawn street by street, not by ZIP code.
Lake and outdoor places in 35475
Lake Tuscaloosa is the City of Tuscaloosa’s reservoir and main drinking-water source, completed around 1970 on the North River. The verified public places in 35475 are outdoor ones:
- Binion Creek Landing, a state public boat launch on Lake Tuscaloosa (Visit Tuscaloosa lists 16553 Binion Creek Heights; another listing uses a US 43 address; both say Northport 35475).

The guide to landmarks and outdoor places in the 35475 postal area covers each place in detail, and the Lake Tuscaloosa ZIP codes guide compares launches and shoreline addresses across the whole lake. Lake Lurleen State Park is often mentioned with Northport, but its address is Coker 35452, outside this ZIP. The Coker 35452 guide explains that neighboring postal area.
Address exceptions to know
- No PO-box ZIP for Northport. Tuscaloosa has separate PO-box ZIP codes; Northport does not. Directories list 35475 as a standard ZIP.
- Shared delivery unit. The USPS Office of Inspector General’s 2024 report says the Northport Post Office serves 35452, 35473, 35475 and 35476. That is a mail-handling arrangement and does not affect municipal or school boundaries.
- Rural routes. The same report counts 19 rural and 13 city routes for the Northport unit. Addresses such as 16780 Mormon Rd and 16553 Binion Creek Heights use the long house numbers found on county roads. Verify each one in the USPS lookup.
